Overview

More Than Sunshine is the banner for my various activities to promote deeper conversations about the culture of the Gold Coast.

I find it useful to frame activities within four categories:

  1. Research: As a PhD Candidate with the Abedian School of Architecture, Bond University, I am examining the role and power of narrative in urban identity, using the Gold Coast Bulletin as my primary data source and following narratives pertaining to our beaches, built form and hinterland as my case studies.

  2.  Heritage Collection: It’s a constant habit for me to photograph the changing landscape and collect vintage souvenirs that represent the distinctiveness of the Gold Coast. As time permits I will also share these as online collections on Instagram.

    @GoldCoastCollector ~ Vintage Gold Coast Souvenirs

    @TheOldCoast ~ Gold Coast Places and Things Worth Remembering

    @LivingHigh ~ Gold Coast Tall Buildings

    @HighwayHeritage ~ Gold Coast Motels

    @Fibrocoast ~ Gold Coast Beach Houses

  3. Advocacy: I participate in several groups committed to improving urban design and ensuring that community interests are served in the development of the city. Activities of these is recorded on Facebook and Instagram

    @BetterBroadbeach ~ Local residents for the betterment of Broadbeach

    @Oceanway2020 ~ Campaign for completion of Oceanway between Surfers and Nobbys

    @GoodNewsGoldCoast ~ Real good news about the GC

  4. Writing: I write narrative non-fiction to prompt more nuanced considerations of the Gold Coast’s urban landscape. Long-form essays will be published on my news blog. Vignettes or micro-stories associated with images will be posted on Instagram, and typically, commentary will be on Facebook or in letters to The Editor of the Gold Coast Bulletin.
